netViz Corporation COO Speaks at International Network Management Conference Presentation at CMG 2000 emphasizes network documentation techniques December 18, 2000, Gaithersburg, MD. netViz Corporation COO Dan Blum participated as a speaker at CMG 2000, the 26th annual international conference for the resource management and performance evaluation of enterprise computing systems. The event took place December 10-15, 2000 and featured presentations covering numerous issues surrounding networked computing. The conference was sponsored by Computer Measurement Group, Inc., a not-for-profit worldwide organization that provides a forum for the exchange of knowledge related to the measurement and management of information systems. "The fact that CMG invited me to come and speak about network documentation shows that there is a growing awareness of the need for thorough, graphical repositories of enterprise wide IT data," said Blum. "Studies have consistently shown that there is a serious financial consequence to IT organizations that don't have good network documentation. Nonetheless, many companies tend to treat documentation projects as something to be worked on as time permits. Of course, if you treat it that way, it will never get done, and sooner or later you're bound to pay the price for not having ready access to all of your enterprise data." "We've helped lots of organizations document their IT networks, and I like to think that we've gained a lot of expertise along the way. There may be more than one right way to organize and create a documentation set, but some "right" ways are better then others. The goal, after all, isn't to create pretty pictures, it's to convey the most possible information to the most possible people as efficiently as possible," said Blum. "By having the opportunity to speak at CMG2000, I was able to share some of what we've learned over the years, from high-level conceptual overviews to hands-on documentation tips. Hopefully some of the conference participants took away knowledge that they could immediately use in their own documentation efforts." About
