Newest netViz Software Receives PC Magazine Award

Review of netViz 3D finds program's utility "extraordinary."

October 18, 2000, Rockville, MD – PC Magazine has given netViz 3D software a five-star rating of "excellent." The magazine's evaluation of the software appears in the October 17, 2000 issue.

Focusing on the software's data-visualization functions, the report discussed the ability of netViz to create data-rich diagrams from external databases. It also noted the usefulness of data-driven graphics, the netViz function that automatically changes the look of diagram graphics to reflect embedded data values.

The lab report concluded that netViz's ability to merge graphics and data and present systems as single, integrated entities is its primary strength. "The program's utility is extraordinary. Your help desk professionals can trace through each hub and router on the network to see why someone in accounting can't log on to the Internet and then identify all other users affected in the same way. You can easily identify all users still running Microsoft Windows 95 and determines which machines do not have enough RAM to upgrade to Windows 2000."

The newest version of netViz software incorporates 3D views of complex documented systems. Instead of simply adopting conventional 3D user interfaces, the company designed its new product from the ground up to cater to general business users and IT professionals. Says netViz President and CEO Vo Tran, "we saw 3D as having enormous potential in the business world, but most existing 3D applications require too much processing power and use fairly confusing navigation tools. We took the best aspects of 3D technology and built netViz 3D for the average business user. Rather than just creating flashy graphics, we spent an enormous amount of time developing a simple user interface that focuses on effective presentation of information and easy ways to examine and edit 3D views. Our timing turned out to be pretty good too, because faster CPUs, 3D graphics cards and improved monitors are getting cheaper all the time. This will make hardware considerations less of a factor for businesses looking into implementing netViz 3D."

Tran was pleased with the PC Magazine review. "On its surface, netViz can look like an ordinary drawing tool. In reality, it has very strong data-integration functionality. I'm glad that PC Magazine labs looked deep enough into our product to see that its strength is not in the ability to creating empty drawings but to use graphics as a way of visualizing complex data."
