We don't just provide a way to create diagrams; we use graphics to visualize data. While you can embed data in netViz diagrams manually, we recognize that it may not always be the best way. An organization's information - describing its operations, personnel, customers, infrastructure - often already resides in spreadsheets and databases scattered around the enterprise.

netViz allows you to tap into those existing data sources and display them in netViz diagrams without any coding. Using a simple drag-and-drop interface, you can create connections between netViz objects and database tables.

Does your information exist in more than one place? No problem. A single netViz object can be linked to any number of fields in any number of disparate data sources, and it works with most commonly-used databases. This simple, elegant interface gives you the power to visualize data kept in a variety of different places. You could, for example, click on a single netViz object and see information covering personnel, marketing, budget, engineering and production schedules. Other users can create their own views that show different kinds of relationships while simultaneously puling data from the same sources.

how it works

We think you'll find our database linking incredibly easy to use. First, pick a graphic to represent a type of object in a netViz diagram (we ship with thousands of graphics, including ones commonly used in workflow and design modeling). To embed database fields in the graphic, just select the database files. netViz displays the fields in each table graphically. Using a mouse, just drag the desired fields over to the object and you're done. If you want to create a hierarchical diagram from your database, just tell netViz which objects are parents and which are children.

Once the database links are established, use a simple pull-down menu to:

  • Populate a new diagram or hierarchical model. netViz automatically places each object and simultaneously embeds it with the data you specified;
  • Add new database objects to an existing netViz hierarchy;
  • Delete obsolete objects. If your netViz diagrams contain components that are no longer in your database, netViz can delete them from the diagrams;
  • Update your databases and spreadsheets. If you make changes to the netViz projects, netViz can write the changes back to the linked data repositories.
